Before the Photos: [The Design Consultation] | NJ Newborn Photography

Before the Photos: [Style & Concept Consultation]

I’m a big believer that beautiful photos start with being comfortable being photographed.

Imagine being pregnant and having an almost perfect stranger come into your home and ask you to get into your underwear as they pointed a camera at you for maternity photos. Yikes! And imagine as a new mom, someone you had done nothing more than exchange a few emails with wanted you to hand over your new baby. I’m a mom of twins, and there are not many people I would have entrusted my babies to in those first precious weeks.

That’s why I offer a Style & Concept Consultation before you ever see my camera. Let’s take some time to get to know each other.  Most people have not been professionally photographed many times in their lives, so part of my job is to help you understand the process and what you can expect from any session we have planned.

We meet for the first time at your home or in the studio, depending on where your session will be. If in your home, treat me like a friend that you wouldn’t fuss too much for. I like a home that looks lived in! Remember that the focus is going to be on you and the ones you love, rather than the architecture of your home. All I need is a small area to work with, and I bring all the equipment necessary to make great photos.

If your significant other or kids are going to be in the photos, it’s helpful for me to get to know them too. The more comfortable everyone is, the better! We can discuss what to wear, and I can even take some photos of your wall space to make suggestions for groupings from your session.

If you’re coming to the studio for newborn photos, I’m happy to show you the backdrops and props I have so you can get an idea of what I have on hand, and some special keepsake items you may want to bring to the session.

I have lots of sample photos to show you as well, so you can see the quality of the final product and so you get excited about the artwork we are going to create for your walls!

Finally, after your session, we meet again for your photo reveal and ordering appointment, where we look through the photos together to decide on your final selections. This process helps you determine exactly what the right fit is for your wall. All your wall art includes master retouching and professional installation as well.

I want every experience you have with me from start to finish to feel like you are dealing with an old friend with a camera. Want to chat more about sessions? I’d love to hear from you. Simply reach out, and I’ll get back in touch!
